Wonder Lake
Senior Citizens' Club On Monday August 19th, the rain didn't dampen the spirits of the members of The Wonder Lake Senior Citizens' Club when their Annual Picnic was moved indoors to the McHenry Township Center. This year there were 24 members present counting 2 new members. We did wait for ten members that were expected before eating in hopes that some staglers would arrive. We hope that it was the rain and not health problems that kept them from our annual event. In appreciation of their efforts to help our members with senior transportation needs, Donna Schaefer, McHenry Township Supervisor, and the girls that work in her office answering the phones and scheduling the Township Senior Bus were invited to attend our picnic for lunch. Unfortunately they were unable to attend. Each member brought
a side dish, salad or dessert for the delicious picnic buffet served with
the hot dogs and Sloppy Joe sandwiches which were made by Sandy Leone.
A thank you to Pat Martin for helping serve the sandwiches. All the ladies
helped setup the buffet, the food was great and we appreciate everyone's
efforts. Five card tables were used for the White Elephant Bag Raffle. Pat Martin and Shirley Brucki arranged the gifts and hung the bidding bags prior to the drawing. Sandy Leone and our new member Darlene Kittinger held the Bag Raffle drawing and netted $29. Additionally, Darlene auctioned the items that had no bids and netted another $3.05 for a total profit for the club of $32.05. Shirley Brucki was in charge of the 50/50 Game and the winner was Marianne Cerza who won $15, 50% of the $30 profit from the sale of cards, with the club winning the other 50% and placing $15 in our treasury. Due to the late start, while waiting for people to arrive, we ran out of time and were unable to play BINGO nor guess the Beans In the Jar Contest. The Beans In the Jar will be played at the next meeting on Monday, September 16th and the prizes awarded at that time to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners. The club expressed its gratitude to the McHenryTownship Park & Facility Manager, Bruce Ware and to Jim Anderson, Salvation Army's Golden Diners Program, for donating the club plates, plasticware, napkins and red checkered plastic tablecloths for our picnic. My thanks to Angie Kordecki and Pat Martin for coming early and helping me set up tables in the township center. And a great big thank you to everyone who helped cleanup after the event. The total net earnings for the club from the proceeds of the picnic was $30.02. Respectfully submitted,
