Library Workshop Field
Trip
On
Wednesday, August 28, the Johnsburg Public Library conducted a special
workshop for a group of Wonder Lake Seniors on "How To Use the
Library Computers". Maria Zawacki, the Library Director, and her
staff assisted the members in finding library material using the computer
which replaced the old card catalogs that we have used for many years.
Every senior wants to be able to come to the library and find what they
are looking for without feeling intimidated by the new technology. And
the hands-on method of training was an excellent way to learn. The group
was taught how to look up a subject, an author and a book title with
ease. By the time they left the seniors felt comfortable with the computers.
It was interesting, exciting and a fun expeience for all that participated
and the club would like to plan another library computer workshop session
at a future date.

August 5th,2002, McHenry
Township Assessor, Carol Perschke
McHenry Township Assessor, Carol Perschke, addressed the Wonder Lake
Senior Citizens' Club. She explained the role of the assessor and the
process of evaluating real estate in McHenry Township, including appeals
and exemptions.
Ms Perschke informed the members how she has reassessed many areas in
the township since she was elected in 1995. She explained how Wonder
Lake area land values have been consistantly assessed low and that assessments
have not kept pace with the marketplace. Wonder Lake property will be
reassessed for 2002 and 2003. The impending increase makes it very important
for seniors to apply for senior exemptions, Circuit Breaker and/or the
Tax Deferal Program. We thank Carol Perschke for a very informative
presentation.
July 9th,2002, Field
Trip: Jelly Belly Center
Wonder Lake Senior Citizens' Club enjoyed a field trip to the
Jelly Belly Center inPleasant Prairie, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 9.
The tour consisted of a train ride that includes a presentation on jelly
beans and specifically the Jelly Belly Factory. Members sampled the
many flavors and made purchases at the outlet store. The group used
the new McHenry Township Senior Express for their outing with a stop
for lunch at the Old Country Buffet. Everyone had a great time.
Our thanks to Donna Schaefer
for all her help with the senior bus.
July 4th,2002, Wonder
Lake 4th of July Parade
Considering that we have been an active part of Wonder Lake for 27 years,
it was exciting that the seniors participated in the Wonder Lake 4th
of July Parade this year. The Seniors made a dazzling entry, driving
a snazzy new yellow Mustang convertible; the car was a real head turner.
And considering all the positive feed back, this will be an annual event
on our calendar. We appreciate the generosity of Conlon-Collins
Ford Jeep in Crystal Lake, that made our participation in the Independence
Day festivities possible. It
was a fun experience.
