July 1st,2002, State Representative Jack Franks addresses Seniors
The Wonder Lake Senior Citizens' Club hosted State Representative Jack Franks on July 1st at the McHenry Township Center. As Vice Chairman of the Committee On Aging, Representative Franks specifically addressed senior concerns such as the prescription drug issues including Circuit Breaker. He discussed how he is working towards having the state save thousands of dollars by buying medications from Canada or Mexico and how seniors, if medically possible, should always buy generic drugs. He also explained that the federal government needs to change patent laws to force the drug companies to lower their prices.

Representative Franks warned the members to be cautious with telemarketers as seniors are usually targeted in scams. Forms were passed out for a program that files your name, address and phone number on a do-not-call-list that is available to telemarketing companies like the state wide list Representative Franks worked very hard to pass in Springfield last year that would have protected seniors.

During the next session of the Illinois House of Representatives, Jack Franks will introduce a bill on grandparent rights. This will give grandparents the legality to see their grandchildren when visitation has been denied by the custodial parent and will be presented as being in the child's best interest.

The meeting was informative and Representative Franks answered questions throughout the entire presentation. When asked if we as a group should voice our opinions and lobby for things that effect seniors, he answered that this would be an excellent activity for us as a group; that as seniors, we have power because we always show up at the polls.
